Singapore, 25 September 2026 – Singapore’s push to strengthen its semiconductor ecosystem is creating a more demanding opening for local small and medium-sized enterprises as global chipmakers seek dependable suppliers closer to production and research hubs. The opportunity is not automatic: a local company must still meet qualification, scale and quality requirements before it becomes part of a major manufacturer’s supply chain. That distinction is central to judging whether new partnerships can translate into durable SME revenue.
The shift was visible during the country’s semiconductor industry events this week. Singapore launched an SG Semiconductor identity to present its research, manufacturing, infrastructure and talent as a coordinated proposition for investors and technology partners. The initiative was developed by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research and the Economic Development Board. It accompanies new and expanded collaborations with international chip companies, rather than replacing the commercial decisions those companies make when selecting suppliers.
