New York, 19 September 2026 – OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman is scheduled to brief the United Nations Security Council next week, bringing the company’s perspective into a high-level discussion of artificial intelligence and international security. The planned appearance is a diplomatic engagement, not evidence that the council has adopted new binding rules for AI companies.
An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the intended in-person briefing on Friday. The 15-member council is due to meet on Wednesday during the annual gathering of world leaders for the UN General Assembly. Altman’s remarks are expected to address international coordination, shared safety standards and the company’s approach to extending benefits globally.
