RM543 Million Allocation to Strengthen Kuala Lumpur’s Infrastructure

KUALA LUMPUR — Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will receive a substantial allocation of RM543 million this year to support infrastructure development and maintenance across the capital, according to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

In a written parliamentary reply, Zaliha disclosed that more than RM75.5 million was collected in assessment tax from properties in Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) and along the bustling Jalan Bukit Bintang in 2024. She explained that DBKL categorises properties under commercial, institutional, industrial, and residential classes, with assessment tax calculated based on annual value and the corresponding rate applied to each class.

The minister was responding to a query from Datuk Azman Nasrudin (PN–Padang Serai) regarding the revenue derived from luxury properties in KLCC and Bukit Bintang, as well as the allocation for infrastructure projects in rural areas.

Zaliha said the RM543 million allocation would be channelled into critical programmes, including RM89 million for flood mitigation, RM185 million for traffic management initiatives, and RM269 million for road and slope maintenance. She emphasised that these measures form part of DBKL’s broader strategy to enhance urban resilience and improve quality of life in Kuala Lumpur.
