Kuala Lumpur, 21 October 2026 – The ringgit opened firmer at 4.0795/0850 against the US dollar on Wednesday, compared with Tuesday’s close of 4.0805/0845. The move followed data showing Malaysian exports rose 54.5% in September and gross domestic product expanded 5.3% in the third quarter, above market expectations.

For businesses and investors, the stronger opening reflects a combination of domestic momentum and a softer external dollar, rather than a decisive change in the currency trend. The US Dollar Index fell 0.27% to 101.707 as expectations of an October Federal Reserve rate increase eased. Currency performance will still depend on future data and central-bank decisions.
