Copenhagen, 12 October 2026 – Ørsted has agreed to buy the remaining 49.9% interest in Britain’s Gunfleet Sands 1 and 2 offshore wind farm for about £15 million, equivalent to roughly US$20 million, giving the Danish energy group full ownership of the operating asset. Completion is expected in November, subject to customary closing conditions.
Ørsted already owns 50.1% of the 172-megawatt project, located about seven kilometres off the Essex coast. The company is exercising a long-standing buyback right from its investment partners. Full control will allow it to manage the wind farm more directly and assess late-life options, including a possible extension of the asset’s operating period.
