Putrajaya, 3 August 2026 – The Malaysian Bar’s appeal over the dismissal of its challenge to the reduction of former prime minister Najib Razak’s sentence returns a sensitive constitutional question to the Court of Appeal this week, with consequences extending beyond the parties directly involved.

The case concerns the Federal Territories Pardons Board’s 2024 decision to halve Najib’s 12-year prison term to six years and reduce his RM210 million fine to RM50 million.
