ALOR GAJAH: After more than three decades, the long-standing issue involving railway reserve land in Pengkalan has finally been resolved, with the Melaka government handing over 47 approval letters for state land applications, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced.
He said the handover underscored the state government’s commitment to understanding community needs and ensuring that policies and development projects deliver tangible benefits to the people.
“Of the approvals, 45 relate to the Pengkalan railway reserve land dispute that has dragged on for 30 years, while two are for temple plots.
“Also approved is Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s (TNB) application to set up a substation on Plot 1, Mukim Kelemak, in the Alor Gajah district, which will supply electricity to residential, commercial, hospital and government facilities—benefiting over 3,050 users,” he said today.
He made the remarks during the handover ceremony held in conjunction with the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme for the Rembia state constituency, also attended by the constituency’s coordinator, Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan.
Ab Rauf said that this year alone, 96 state land applications in the district have been approved, with applicants subsequently receiving Notice 5A from the land administrator. Notice 5A informs recipients of the fees payable—including document preparation and registration charges—to obtain their land titles.
“It is on these lands that new homes will rise, gardens will bloom, children will play, and families will gather on weekends. The true value lies not just in the land’s size, but in its potential to nurture lives and pass on a legacy of peace to future generations,” he said.
He added that the state government offers land premiums below market value—between RM9,000 and RM25,000, depending on size—compared with hundreds of thousands of ringgit. A special five per cent discount is also available to Notice 5A recipients who make full payment within three months, provided no requests for extensions or appeals for premium reduction are made.
