Hangzhou, 23 September 2026 – Anthony Loke said he remains firm in his decision to resign as Malaysia’s transport minister and will hand his letter to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim after returning from China. The statement is a material step beyond an earlier offer to step down, but it is not yet a completed Cabinet departure: the letter has not been submitted and the prime minister has not announced a decision.
Loke, who also leads the Democratic Action Party, made the comments after arriving in Hangzhou during a working visit accompanying Anwar. His intended resignation follows a party leadership meeting held in response to the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Najib Razak. Loke has said that other DAP ministers and deputy ministers will remain in the unity government.
