Johor Launches RM3.87 Million Empowerment Drive for Orang Asli Communities

Kuala Lumpur, August 28, 2025 — The Johor state government has announced a RM3.87 million allocation to support and empower Orang Asli communities across the state, unveiling nine initiatives designed to improve welfare, education, and infrastructure for the indigenous population. The measures were revealed during the State Orang Asli Day Festival in Kluang and reflect the government’s commitment to narrowing development gaps while fostering inclusivity.

As part of the initiative, more than 5,000 Orang Asli household heads will each receive one-off cash assistance of RM200, while 46 Tok Batin village chiefs will be given RM300 each. Food baskets are also being distributed to families in need, ensuring immediate relief for vulnerable groups. In a push for educational advancement and digital inclusion, 73 Orang Asli university students will receive laptops to aid their studies.

The government has also earmarked a special grant of RM10,000 for every Orang Asli village in Johor, benefitting all 60 settlements. This financial support is intended to fund community development programmes and strengthen local governance structures. Meanwhile, significant infrastructure upgrades are planned, including improvements to 17 multipurpose halls, 32 community halls, and 44 sports facilities to ensure residents have better access to social and recreational spaces.

In addition, RM10,000 contributions will be channelled to 37 mosques and surau within Orang Asli areas, supporting religious institutions that play an important role in community life. These combined measures are aimed not only at addressing immediate needs but also at equipping the Orang Asli with tools for long-term socioeconomic progress.

Johor’s leadership stressed that the initiative underscores the state’s recognition of the Orang Asli as integral members of society whose welfare and opportunities must be safeguarded. The rollout of these programmes marks a significant step toward bridging disparities and promoting inclusivity in Malaysia’s broader development agenda.
