KUALA LUMPUR: The public has been urged not to take the law into their own hands when dealing with offences involving the Jalur Gemilang, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil reminded today.
He stressed that investigations, prosecutions, and court rulings should be left fully to the authorities, echoing a reminder issued by the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) on Friday (Aug 15).
“Do not act as the police, lawyer, and judge — it’s wrong. Leave the investigations to the police, prosecution to the AGC, and decisions to the courts,” he said after launching the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2025 campaign at Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Kampus Bahasa Melayu on Saturday (Aug 16).
Present at the launch were Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general (strategic communications and creative industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin, Information Department director-general Julina Johan, and IPG Kampus Bahasa Melayu director Dr Masitah Mohammad Yusof.
Fahmi noted that police had called up several individuals following a rally held to ‘teach’ certain parties, but stressed that any further action would rest with the relevant authorities.
He also encouraged Malaysians to express their patriotism in constructive ways when addressing issues related to the Jalur Gemilang.
“As Malaysians, we can all do our part. If a Jalur Gemilang has fallen, pick it up. If it’s faded, replace it. If it’s flown incorrectly, adjust it ourselves. Let’s not curse, ridicule, or act uncivilly. Instead, let’s demonstrate our patriotism this national month while reminding each other positively,” he said.
The campaign launch also featured the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya-level Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy, comprising 73 vehicles from the Communications Ministry’s departments and agencies, the police, Fire and Rescue Department, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), National Security Council (MKN), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Suzuki V-Strom Malaysia motorsports club, Bernama, and the Lembah Pantai Madani Community.
Other side programmes included the Safe Internet campaign to raise awareness of ethical online practices among teacher trainees. Jalur Gemilang kits were also distributed to IPG senior management and representatives of 12 Madani Communities in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya under the ‘1 House 1 Jalur Gemilang’ initiative.
