Amsterdam, 21 September 2026 – About 7,000 humanoid robots were sold worldwide in 2025 for industrial and professional-service applications, according to figures compiled by the International Federation of Robotics. The number provides a useful reality check for a sector attracting billions of dollars in investment: commercial adoption is still limited, even as developers, governments and financial institutions forecast a steep increase in production and deployment.
The estimate uses a specific definition. A machine qualifies as humanoid when it has a human-like appearance and can operate autonomously in an environment designed for people; legs are not required. The 7,000 total therefore measures sales within industrial and professional-service categories under that methodology. It should not be treated as a count of every prototype, research platform, educational unit or machine described as humanoid by its manufacturer.
