Kuala Lumpur, 20 October 2026 – The FBM KLCI remained below the 1,600-point level at the midday break, rising 3.22 points to 1,598.97 while the wider Malaysian market stayed under pressure. Declining stocks outnumbered gainers by 659 to 244, with 1.54 billion shares worth RM968.68 million traded. The index’s advance therefore did not reflect broad participation across Bursa Malaysia.

For investors, the contrast between a firmer benchmark and weak market breadth matters because large banking and healthcare constituents can lift the index while smaller portfolios still lose value. The figures are confirmed midday observations, not closing prices. Expectations that the market will rebound are brokerage analysis rather than a settled outcome, especially while technology valuations, global growth and high overseas bond yields remain uncertain.
