Putrajaya, 8 February 2026 – Malaysia’s Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that Malaysia’s legal system provides proper mechanisms to address wrongdoing without resorting to vigilantism.
Fahmi emphasised that enforcement of laws must remain the responsibility of authorised authorities, including the police and relevant enforcement agencies, to ensure justice is administered fairly and in accordance with due process.
“There are laws in place, and enforcement should be left to the proper authorities,” he said, urging Malaysians to refrain from actions that could undermine legal order or escalate tensions.
Upholding Rule of Law and Public Order
The minister highlighted that Malaysia’s legal framework is designed to protect both public safety and individual rights, ensuring that all allegations and offences are handled through proper investigation and judicial processes.
He warned that acts of vigilantism could complicate ongoing investigations, interfere with evidence gathering and potentially expose individuals to legal consequences.
Authorities continue to encourage members of the public to report suspected wrongdoing through official channels, allowing enforcement agencies to conduct investigations in accordance with established legal procedures.
Protecting Social Stability in the Digital Age
Fahmi also stressed the importance of maintaining social harmony, particularly in the era of social media, where misinformation and emotional reactions can sometimes lead to premature public judgment.
He urged Malaysians to remain responsible and allow law enforcement agencies to perform their duties independently and professionally, ensuring accountability while preserving public order.
The minister’s remarks underscore the government’s broader commitment to strengthening institutional integrity, maintaining rule of law and ensuring that justice is delivered through lawful and transparent processes.
Reinforcing Confidence in Malaysia’s Legal Institutions
Malaysia’s emphasis on proper legal enforcement is seen as critical to preserving investor confidence, public trust and institutional stability, particularly as the country continues to position itself as a stable and rules-based economy in Southeast Asia.
For investors and the broader public, strong adherence to legal frameworks remains a key pillar supporting Malaysia’s governance, economic resilience and social cohesion.
