Cross-Border E-Commerce Expands Global Reach for Malaysian MSMEs

Matrade chief executive officer Datuk Indera Abu Bakar Yusof said the eTRADE 2.0 programme has successfully demonstrated that a digital-led approach can strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs, encourage job creation and support a stronger domestic supply chain.

Kuala Lumpur, 12 August 2026 – Malaysian micro, small and medium enterprises are using cross-border e-commerce to enter overseas markets at lower cost, with a government-supported programme generating RM438.7 million in export sales.

The eTRADE 2.0 programme has supported more than 2,000 MSMEs and reached 163 export markets. About 30% of participants strengthened their presence within ASEAN, showing how digital marketplaces can turn regional proximity into practical commercial expansion.
