Beijing, 9 September 2026 – China’s new-share market is producing unusually large paper gains for the small number of retail investors fortunate enough to secure allocations, creating a vivid contrast with the muted performance of the broader equity market. Seven mainland listings this year have delivered profits exceeding 100,000 yuan on a standard 500-share allocation, an amount comparable with several months of wages for many urban households. The gains are drawing renewed attention to the mechanics of China’s IPO lottery and the scarcity premium attached to successful applications.
