Cupertino, 3 October 2026 – Apple is preparing tighter privacy controls for Macs as increasingly autonomous artificial intelligence agents seek broader access to users’ files, messages and applications, highlighting a new security challenge emerging from the rapid growth of agentic AI.

The company plans to make it more explicit when AI-powered applications request Full Disk Access, a Mac permission that can allow software to reach large portions of a user’s stored data.
