Alibaba’s US$1.5 Billion Gaming Sale Sharpens Strategic Focus on AI

Hangzhou, China, 17 August 2026 – Alibaba Group is selling its gaming arm in a transaction worth at least US$1.5 billion, sharpening the Chinese technology group’s effort to concentrate resources on artificial intelligence and other strategic priorities.

Asian private-equity firm Trustar Capital has agreed to acquire Lingxi Games. An internal communication from the gaming company described the transfer as a way to give both Alibaba and Lingxi greater focus, although detailed transaction terms and the completion timetable were not disclosed publicly.
