AIZO Group Signs MoU to Develop Green Bitumen Facility in Sarawak, Expanding Into Sustainable Materials

By Katherine (Kay)2 min read

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 November 2025 — AIZO Group Berhad (KLSE:AIZO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with K2 Bitumen Sdn Bhd to explore the development of a Green Bitumen Facility in Sarawak, marking the Group’s strategic expansion into environmentally focused construction materials.

The collaboration, undertaken through AIZO’s wholly owned subsidiary AIZO Manufacturing International Sdn Bhd (AMI), will centre on producing and commercialising Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen (CRMB) and other sustainable bitumen solutions.

The move positions AIZO to tap into Malaysia’s growing demand for green infrastructure solutions, particularly in East Malaysia, where large-scale road and industrial projects are accelerating.

Driving Sustainable Bitumen and CRMB Innovation in Sarawak

The proposed Green Bitumen Facility will bring together:

  • AMI’s manufacturing capabilities in bituminous products
  • K2 Bitumen’s CRMB expertise, which utilises recycled rubber from used tyres and rubber waste

Under the MoU, both parties will collaborate on:

  • Technology sharing
  • Knowledge exchange
  • Joint R&D initiatives
  • Innovation-driven solutions to support greener construction and circular-economy goals

The initiative supports Malaysia’s national push for low-carbon and sustainable development, while aligning with Sarawak’s ambition to grow its clean and circular economy.

Leadership: “A Strategic Move Into Higher-Value Sustainability Solutions”

AIZO’s Executive Director, En. Ahmad Rahizal Bin Dato’ Ahmad Rasidi, said the partnership reflects the Group’s commitment to advancing ESG-oriented materials:

“The potential collaboration with K2 Bitumen marks an important step in our broader strategy to expand into sustainable and higher-value bituminous solutions. CRMB is increasingly recognised for its durability, recyclability and environmental benefits, aligning well with national objectives to promote greener construction materials.

This initiative strengthens our bituminous product capabilities and positions AIZO at the forefront of ESG development in Sarawak and across Malaysia.”

K2 Bitumen’s Role: CRMB Technology and ESG-Driven Capabilities

K2 Bitumen, a Malaysian company specialising in CRMB production and modified bitumen products — is recognised as a certified ESG company and brings:

  • Proven technical capabilities
  • Commercial CRMB production experience
  • Sustainable material innovations

Together, AIZO and K2 Bitumen will evaluate how to scale CRMB and green bitumen output to meet rising demand in East Malaysia’s rapidly developing infrastructure market.

Supporting Sarawak’s Green Economy Vision

By advancing recycled rubber-based bitumen and low-carbon construction materials, the collaboration aligns with Sarawak’s long-term goals to:

  • Promote sustainable industrial activities
  • Strengthen green manufacturing
  • Support circular-economy practices
  • Transform the state into a clean, low-carbon growth hub

The MoU reinforces AIZO’s long-term commitment to advancing ESG practices and expanding the company’s impact in East Malaysia’s infrastructure ecosystem.
