KUALA LUMPUR, 21 October 2025 — As Malaysia accelerates its transition toward a low-carbon economy, the private sector is stepping up as a key driver of change. This momentum was on full display at the 3rd Annual National Energy Efficiency Conference (NEEC) 2025, organised by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) and Business Sweden, in partnership with ABB, Atlas Copco, Daikin, Schaeffler and SKF.

Held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the conference brought together policymakers, business leaders and technology experts to explore collaborative strategies for enhancing energy efficiency across Malaysia’s industrial and commercial sectors.

The event supports the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and Budget 2026’s call for greater private sector innovation in sustainable growth.

The conference also witnessed SKF Malaysia formalising its membership in the NEEC network through an MoU, strengthening cross-industry collaboration in advancing Malaysia’s energy transition.

Turning Policy into Industrial Progress

Malaysia’s energy efficiency initiatives are already producing measurable outcomes. The government has achieved cumulative savings of 39,382 GWh, valued at RM10.5 billion, while the first half of 2024 alone delivered 5.82% electricity savings worth RM2.21 billion.

“Energy efficiency is one of the most practical and impactful tools for achieving net-zero ambitions,” said Khalid Shaikh, General Manager of Atlas Copco Malaysia. “Our goal is to help industries move from compliance to competitiveness, positioning efficiency as a strategic advantage.”

Budget 2026 reinforced this trajectory with a RM150 million Energy Transition Fund, including the Large-Scale Solar 6 (LSS6) programme with nearly 2GW capacity and a 70% renewable energy target by 2050.

Technology Driving Industrial Transformation

Speakers highlighted how digitalisation, automation and artificial intelligence (AI) are enabling real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and energy optimisation.

“At ABB, we believe energy efficiency is a core pillar of Malaysia’s sustainable energy future,” said R. Narayanan, Senior Vice President and Head of Motion Business, Asia, ABB. “Collaboration across electrification, automation, and digitalisation is key to achieving lasting impact.”

“Smart cooling systems are essential to reducing Malaysia’s energy footprint,” added Desmond Tay Yang Jiun, Senior Manager, VRV & Project Sales, Daikin Malaysia.

Naqeeb bin Yusof, Head of Service & Engineering, SKF Malaysia, noted, “Through NEEC, we aim to share best practices and deliver clean, intelligent solutions that accelerate industrial transformation.”

Themed “Energy Efficiency First: Regional Action for Climate Leadership”, NEEC 2025 underscored how strong public–private partnerships are translating ambition into measurable results.

“Malaysia’s journey toward a low-carbon economy is a shared endeavour,” said Ludvig Hermansson, Trade Commissioner, Business Sweden. “Platforms like NEEC demonstrate how collaboration can foster innovation and sustainable competitiveness.”
