Toyota Motor Corporation is issuing a recall for 591,377 vehicles in the United States following a safety concern involving the instrument panel display, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The flaw—rooted in software used during startup—can prevent crucial alerts such as vehicle speed, brake warnings, and tire pressure indicators from displaying properly, thereby increasing crash or injury risk.
The models affected span both Toyota and Lexus brands. Among them are the Toyota Venza, Highlander, Tacoma, GR Corolla and several others, plus select Lexus models. The issue centers on 12.3-inch digital dashboards which may go blank when the vehicle is started.
Toyota has committed to remedying the defect. Dealers will either update the combination meter’s programming or replace the instrument panel where necessary. Owners of affected vehicles are expected to be notified by mid-November 2025.
This recall adds to a growing number of recent vehicle manufacturer safety steps, especially as dashboards become more digital and software-dependent. While no crashes have been directly tied to this defect yet, the potential for missing warnings has prompted a voluntary recall, reflecting Toyota’s and NHTSA’s caution.
