New York, 5 October 2026 – New York City’s rare council-wide hearing on artificial intelligence is bringing former industry researcher Jacob Coxon together with representatives of leading AI companies, placing whistleblower protection, independent model validation and public accountability at the centre of the regulatory debate.
The Committee of the Whole hearing convenes all 51 members of the City Council to examine risks from rapidly advancing AI systems and consider a package of proposed safeguards. Coxon, who recently left Anthropic after warning about the dangers of frontier development, is expected to appear at the request of Council Speaker Julie Menin. His participation gives lawmakers direct access to an insider perspective at a moment when governments are struggling to match the speed and technical complexity of model development.
