Jakarta, 1 October 2026 – Indonesia’s annual consumer-price inflation rose to 3.28% in September from 3.19% in August, with food costs accounting for much of the monthly increase. The statistics office reported a 0.30% rise in the consumer price index from the previous month, taking the index to 112.31 from 111.97. The annual reading was close to a market expectation of about 3.3%, but the composition matters for households, retailers and monetary policymakers.
Food, beverages and tobacco prices rose 0.88% month on month and contributed 0.26 percentage points to the overall monthly change, according to the reported statistical briefing. That means the category accounted for most of September’s 0.30% headline rise. Bird’s-eye chilli was cited as the largest individual contributor at 0.08 percentage points, followed by red chilli at 0.06 and broiler chicken at 0.05. Rice, eggs, fresh fish and vegetables added smaller amounts.
