Singapore, 28 September 2026 – Singapore is reorganising government teams and recruiting specialist talent as it examines whether nuclear energy could one day fit its power system. The expansion of expertise is a preparatory step, not a decision to build a reactor. The city-state’s energy regulator says no decision has been made to deploy nuclear power, and its formal assessment of national readiness will draw on an international expert review beginning in 2027.
The distinction between building capability and ordering capacity is important for investors. Singapore must evaluate safety, regulation, emergency planning, waste management, technical staffing and public confidence before it can judge whether any technology is suitable for its dense urban setting. Strengthening teams now allows officials to ask more rigorous questions of developers and foreign counterparts. It does not establish a construction schedule, project size or procurement opportunity.
