Putrajaya, 25 September 2026 – Malaysia’s communications regulator has referred complaints about compromised, blocked and inaccessible WhatsApp accounts to Meta, seeking an explanation and appropriate action from the platform. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission said it is monitoring the issue and will continue working with the company to protect users. It has not disclosed how many accounts are affected, whether a platform-wide fault exists or when individual cases will be resolved.
The distinction between a hacked account and an account blocked by the platform is central to the response. A compromised account may be used by an unauthorised party to send fraudulent messages or spam. That misuse can then cause the platform to restrict the account under its rules. A user facing a block should therefore not assume the same cause or recovery route as someone whose credentials have been stolen.
