Shanghai, 21 September 2026 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou is set to push Malaysia-China economic cooperation beyond conventional trade into artificial intelligence, digital commerce, technical education and advanced manufacturing. The programme combines high-level political engagement with industry outreach, giving investors a clearer view of where bilateral capital and policy priorities may converge over the next investment cycle.
Anwar is scheduled to meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang and participate in the WorldSkills Conference 2026 and the Fifth Global Digital Trade Expo. The agenda reflects Malaysia’s effort to link investment promotion with workforce development. Data centres, semiconductors, electric vehicles, renewable energy, logistics and the digital economy require not only capital commitments but also technicians, engineers and regulatory capacity. Positioning technical and vocational education alongside investment discussions may help address that implementation gap.
