New York, 2 September 2026 – The US dollar climbed to its strongest level in about two weeks as higher Treasury yields, firmer expectations for Federal Reserve tightening and geopolitical uncertainty encouraged demand for the currency. The dollar index rose roughly 0.2% to 99.865, touching its highest level since 17 August and reversing part of the weakness seen earlier in the period.
The move was accompanied by pressure on major currencies. The euro traded near US$1.1575, while the Japanese yen weakened towards 159.89 per dollar. The New Zealand dollar fell about 1.01% to US$0.5844. These shifts reflect both the dollar’s broad appeal and country-specific differences in growth, inflation and policy expectations, rather than a single uniform judgment on the global economy.
