Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 1 September 2026 – Malaysian manufacturers are urging authorities and financial institutions to simplify applications and accelerate disbursement after the government added RM1 billion to its microfinance allocation for 2026. The increase lifts the total pool to RM6 billion from RM5 billion, expanding the amount available to micro and small businesses facing working-capital constraints. Industry representatives argue, however, that the programme’s economic value will depend on how quickly eligible companies can turn the allocation into usable financing.
Speed matters because smaller enterprises typically have limited cash buffers and weaker negotiating power with customers and suppliers. Delayed receivables, higher raw-material prices or an unexpected equipment repair can disrupt operations even when an order book remains healthy. A facility approved after the immediate need has passed may do little to protect jobs or fulfil contracts. Faster decisions can therefore improve the programme’s effectiveness without requiring the government to increase the headline allocation further.
