Putrajaya, Malaysia, 1 September 2026 – Malaysia has opened applications for a RM200 million Geran Sejahtera Madani programme aimed at hawkers, small traders and home-based entrepreneurs, expanding the government's support for household-scale business activity. The grant is designed for groups including night-market operators and mothers running businesses from home. The initiative is accompanied by an additional RM1 billion for microfinancing, lifting the 2026 pool from RM5 billion to RM6 billion. The combination of grants and credit seeks to address both start-up needs and working-capital constraints.
Other measures announced alongside the programme include a planned increase in school-maintenance funding from RM1 billion to RM1.5 billion in 2027, digital training for younger Malaysians and a RM1 billion health-sector digitalisation initiative covering 150 hospitals and more than 2,000 clinics. These programmes broaden the domestic demand and productivity context. The immediate market response should be interpreted in the context of inclusive finance and micro-enterprise development. Headline figures provide direction, but the durability of the change will depend on implementation, counterparties and the broader cost of capital.
