Putrajaya, 14 August 2026 – Malaysia’s inflation rate reached 1.9% in the second quarter of 2026, up from 1.6% in the first quarter as fuel and transport-related costs became more visible in household expenses. The increase remains moderate by regional standards, but its composition matters because energy prices can spread through freight, food distribution and business operating costs.
June inflation was also 1.9% year on year, easing slightly from 2.0% in May. The consumer price index rose to 137.1 from 134.5 a year earlier. Transport inflation moderated during June, but fuel-related pressure across the quarter helped lift the broader average, illustrating how monthly relief can coexist with a firmer quarterly trend.
