Putrajaya, 3 November 2026 – Malaysia has approved more than RM250 million for transport development connected to the East Coast Rail Link in Kelantan, the Ministry of Finance said on Tuesday. The package includes RM30 million for a bus terminal at the Kota Bharu ECRL station and more than RM200 million for preliminary work on a proposed extension to Rantau Panjang.

For businesses and investors, the allocation concerns connections and project preparation rather than a completed railway extension. A station-linked bus terminal could improve onward travel, while preparatory work can clarify the requirements of a future rail phase. The approval does not establish a construction-completion date, contractor award or guaranteed increase in freight and passenger demand.
