Meta Withdraws AI Image Tool Days After Launch Following Privacy Backlash

WASHINGTON, 11 July 2026 — Meta Platforms has withdrawn a newly launched artificial intelligence image-generation feature just days after its debut, following widespread criticism over privacy concerns and objections from users and the entertainment industry.

The feature, called Muse Image, was introduced on Tuesday as Meta’s first image-generation model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs. It allowed users to generate AI images using content from public Instagram accounts and edit the results through sketches within the Meta AI chatbot.
