US Widens Ban on Chinese Tech Imports, Expands Restrictions Beyond New Equipment

WASHINGTON, 27 June 2026 — The United States is expanding its restrictions on Chinese technology imports after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced a broader ban covering additional telecommunications, surveillance and security equipment from several major Chinese manufacturers.

The latest move widens an existing national security measure introduced in 2022 by extending the restrictions beyond newly developed products to include older equipment models used in sensitive sectors.

The expanded import ban is scheduled to take effect in early July.
