Kuala Lumpur, 24 June 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Malaysian government have filed an application to strike out a legal challenge brought by five opposition Members of Parliament over the Malaysia-US Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, setting the stage for a closely watched constitutional dispute involving trade policy, executive authority and parliamentary oversight.
The originating summons was filed by Datuk Rosol Wahid, Fathul Huzir Ayob, Datuk Awang Solahuddin Hashim, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin and Datuk Abdul Khalid Abdullah. The MPs are seeking judicial determination on constitutional questions linked to the validity of the agreement, which they allege was signed without proper parliamentary approval.
During case management at the High Court, federal counsel informed the court that Anwar and the government had filed the strike-out application. Lawyers representing the plaintiffs also told the court that their clients had filed a separate application seeking to refer constitutional questions to the Federal Court.
