KLIA Faces Intermittent Route Disruptions as National Day Flypast Takes Flight

Travellers planning departures from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this week are advised to consider adjustments in light of temporary airspace restrictions tied to Malaysia’s 68th National Day celebrations. The Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed closures of airspace surrounding KLIA on August 26, 27, and 28 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, and again on August 29 and 31 between 8:45 am and 9:45 am, to facilitate both rehearsals and flypast displays over Putrajaya.

Malaysia Airlines has indicated that selected flights will be retimed during these windows and is urging passengers—particularly those on international routes—to arrive at least four hours before departure to accommodate additional security screening and document checks. Meanwhile, AirAsia is highlighting specific accommodations for vulnerable groups; senior citizens, expectant mothers, and travellers with reduced mobility may check in at dedicated counters, while others are encouraged to use the AirAsia MOVE app for self check-in, baggage tag issuance, and e-boarding passes. The airline anticipates heavier traffic at check-in and immigration, especially with the long weekend approaching.

With proper planning, passengers can still enjoy seamless journeys amid the brief disruptions and immerse themselves in the patriotic fervour leading up to National Day.
