SEOUL, 24 May 2026 – South Korea must ensure that wealth generated by artificial intelligence benefits the wider public, Deputy Prime Minister Bae Kyung-hoon said, as the country confronts rising concerns that the AI boom could widen income gaps, threaten jobs and concentrate gains among a small group of technology giants.
Bae’s remarks come at a sensitive moment for Asia’s fourth-largest economy, where the rally in AI-linked semiconductor stocks has lifted market optimism but also intensified debate over who should benefit from the extraordinary profits being created by advanced chips, memory products and AI infrastructure.
