GUANGZHOU, 9 September 2025 — Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng Motors is preparing to extend its Mona series—which has gained rapid popularity in China—to global markets starting in 2026, according to company CEO He Xiaopeng. The expansion will initially focus on Europe, with plans to quickly widen to other regions.
The Mona M03, a compact electric coupe priced around RMB 119,800 (~US$17,000), will serve as the flagship product. Since its August 2024 launch, the M03 has become a driving force behind Xpeng’s domestic sales, accounting for over 40% of monthly deliveries and making up approximately 43% of the company’s year-to-date volume.
Xpeng’s CEO said, “In 2026 you can expect a variety of Mona products launched into the Chinese and European markets, as well as in the rest of the world,” adding that the vehicles will be competitively priced compared to its upscale P7 and G6 models.
To support this global pivot, Xpeng is solidifying its international infrastructure. The company recently inaugurated a research and development center in Munich, Germany, strengthened its presence in over 60 countries, and is exploring European manufacturing, although no firm timeline has been disclosed.
Implications for Auto Markets
For ASEAN and regional markets, the Mona rollout signals a seismic shift in the EV value proposition. Affordable, well-equipped EVs entering Europe reassert China’s role as a dominant EV exporter. The move is expected to pressure established automakers while accelerating the adoption of budget EV models across emerging and developed markets alike.
