Washington, 3 August 2026 – Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche has formally rescinded a US$1.776 billion fund intended to compensate people claiming politically motivated prosecution, placing fiscal controls and institutional independence at the centre of his confirmation process.
The programme, commonly described as a US$1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund, was established in May as part of a settlement involving President Donald Trump’s lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service. It was designed to receive money from the federal judgment fund and consider claims for apologies or monetary relief.
