Kuala Lumpur, 24 September 2026 – UDA Holdings has been directed to turn ageing and underused property into better commercial space that micro, small and medium enterprises can afford, according to Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Steven Sim. The mandate seeks to extract more value from assets that currently impose maintenance costs while offering limited commercial use. It is also an attempt to give smaller traders access to central urban locations often priced beyond their reach.
During a visit to Chinatown 1974, Sim pointed to opportunities across UDA’s long-established portfolio, including land and buildings accumulated over more than five decades. The company is already pursuing renewal at Heritage Valley in Kuala Lumpur, A-Walk in Melaka and Pudu Sentral, with about four or five other assets identified nationwide. No aggregate redevelopment budget, rental schedule or timetable for those additional sites has been disclosed, so investors should not infer a near-term earnings uplift from the policy direction alone.
