Osaka / Kuala Lumpur, 11 September 2025 — At Expo 2025 Osaka, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) emerged as the voice of Malaysia’s energy transformation, spotlighting the nation’s net-zero ambitions and advancing broader ASEAN energy integration during Energy Week at the Malaysia Pavilion.
TNB’s President and CEO, Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan, shared that the company’s participation from 9–12 September was anchored by two core objectives: narrating Malaysia’s journey toward 2050 net-zero emissions and positioning the nation as both an infrastructure hub and trading epicenter in the wider ASEAN energy ecosystem.
He further emphasised Malaysia’s strategic location as a decisive advantage—offering both physical and commercial infrastructure to facilitate cross-border energy flow. A defining highlight was the discussion around the ASEAN Power Grid (APG), which contemplates regional interconnections from Vietnam to Malaysia and Singapore, as well as the broader North-South energy linkages through Laos, Thailand, and beyond. Solidifying such connections would enhance regional energy resilience and unlock shared renewable potential.
TNB’s message was clear: Malaysia is not only committed to achieving net-zero via the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) but is also spearheading regional cooperation to harness the diverse natural strengths of ASEAN nations. From Vietnam’s wind power and Laos’s hydro resources to Malaysia’s solar capabilities, an integrated energy network can transform shared resources into collective prosperity and sustainability.
Strategic Implications for The Ledger Asia’s Audience
TNB’s leadership at Osaka Expo signals a new chapter in Southeast Asia’s energy narrative. First, Malaysia reaffirms its role as a strategic pivot for ASEAN’s green infrastructure and renewable economy. Second, by advocating the ASEAN Power Grid, the government and TNB position regional integration as key to resource optimization and decarbonisation. For regional investors and infrastructure planners, this underscores renewed opportunities in cross-border energy trade, renewable project financing, and resilient grid investment across ASEAN.
