UNITED STATES, 14 October 2025 – Pop superstar Taylor Swift has made music history again with her 12th studio album, The Life Of A Showgirl. In its first week in the US, the album sold more than 4 million copies, including streaming numbers.

This makes it the biggest first-week album sale in modern music history since Luminate, the industry data company, began tracking sales in 1991. Swift easily broke the previous record, which was set in 2015 by Adele’s album 25.

The album, which came out on October 3, started setting records right away. On its release day, it sold 2.7 million copies, breaking her own record for most first-week sales in just 24 hours.

Swift now holds the record for the most No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 by a solo artist, with 15 total, a record previously shared with Drake and Jay-Z.

Additionally, the album set a new record for the most vinyl albums sold in a single week in the US, moving 1.2 million vinyl copies on its first day.

Her massive success is partly due to releasing the record in several different physical versions (called “variants”) to encourage fans to purchase multiple copies.

The news arrived alongside an announcement that Swift will release two new projects on Disney+, including a six-episode documentary series about her Eras Tour.
