Sony and TSMC Partner in $6.3 Billion Joint Venture to Mass-Produce Next-Generation Image Sensors

Tokyo, 10 August 2026 – Japan’s Sony Group Corporation and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) plan to invest approximately 1 trillion yen ($6.32 billion) to jointly develop and mass-produce next-generation microchips for advanced image sensors. The joint venture, owned 60 percent by Sony Semiconductor Solutions and 40 percent by TSMC, aims to establish production lines in Koshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, targeting commercial mass production as early as 2029 to serve expanding artificial intelligence, automotive, and robotics markets.
