Tokyo, 10 June 2026 – SoftBank Group’s attempt to raise at least US$6 billion through a margin loan backed by its stake in OpenAI has reportedly stalled, highlighting the growing complexity of financing large-scale artificial-intelligence bets even as investor appetite for the sector remains strong.
The Japanese technology investment group had been in talks with potential creditors for a financing arrangement tied to its OpenAI holdings. The proposed loan would have allowed SoftBank to unlock liquidity from one of its most high-profile AI investments without immediately selling down its exposure.
