Singapore, 27 October 2026 – Singapore is updating its SS673 renewable energy certificate standard so that companies claiming clean electricity use in the country must link their certificates to green power supplied directly to the local grid. The change was announced on Tuesday as Singapore advances plans to import 6 gigawatts of low-carbon electricity by 2035.
The update matters to Asian businesses and investors because renewable energy certificates support corporate emissions reporting, power-purchase decisions and sustainability-linked finance. Singapore has confirmed the new local-grid principle, but SS673 remains a voluntary business standard. Companies will still need to understand which reporting frameworks they use and whether their certificates meet the relevant geographic, timing and retirement rules.
