London, 27 October 2026 – HSBC Holdings plc reported third-quarter profit before tax of US$9.63 billion, up 32% from US$7.30 billion a year earlier, and announced plans for a further share buyback of up to US$1 billion. Reported revenue rose US$0.8 billion to US$18.6 billion for the quarter ended 30 September 2026.

The result matters to Asian investors because HSBC’s earnings, capital deployment and growth strategy remain closely tied to Hong Kong and regional wealth flows. The reported profit increase was helped by the non-recurrence of US$1.4 billion in legal provisions booked in the prior-year quarter, so the headline growth rate should not be read as purely operating expansion. On a constant-currency basis and excluding notable items, profit before tax increased by US$0.9 billion to US$10.0 billion.
