Kuala Lumpur, 1 October 2026 – The ringgit opened firmer against several major and regional currencies but edged lower against the US dollar, a split that matters more to Malaysian companies than a simple strong-or-weak headline. At 8am, banks quoted the dollar at RM4.0790/0860, compared with RM4.0785/0820 at Wednesday’s close. The change was small and describes an opening snapshot, not the exchange rate for the whole trading day.
Against the euro, the ringgit improved to RM4.6203/6282 from RM4.6324/6363, while it gained against sterling to RM5.4104/4197 from RM5.4162/4209. It also strengthened against the yen to RM2.5887/5933 from RM2.5969/5993. The direction differed across pairs because exchange rates express the price of one currency relative to another, not a single underlying value for the ringgit.
