Ringgit Opens Higher Against US Dollar as Markets Await Key US Inflation Data and Domestic GDP Growth

Kuala Lumpur, 10 August 2026 – The Malaysian ringgit opened on a firmer note against the US dollar on Monday morning, supported by sustained capital inflows into regional emerging markets and positive domestic economic momentum ahead of critical macroeconomic releases from both the United States and Malaysia. Currency traders are maintaining a cautious yet constructive bias as markets prepare for the US Consumer Price Index print due mid-week, alongside Malaysia’s second-quarter gross domestic product performance figures.

In early trading across regional interbank foreign exchange desks, the local currency strengthened to trade within the 4.07 to 4.09 range against the greenback, recovering ground following mixed global risk sentiment late last week. Analysts attribute the local unit’s resilience to stable overnight policy interest rates maintained by Bank Negara Malaysia, robust crude oil export revenues, and sustained institutional appetite for Malaysian fixed-income securities and equity instruments.
