Over 30,000 Expected to Attend Selangor-Level National Day Celebrations in Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM, August 29, 2025 – The Selangor-level celebration of Malaysia’s 68th National Day at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam is set to draw a turnout exceeding 30,000 Malaysians, as confirmed today by Selangor’s Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. In his remarks after delivering the Menteri Besar’s National Day Lecture at the Shah Alam City Council Convention Centre on Friday, he expressed optimism that this year’s festivities would exemplify unity and patriotism across the state.

Scheduled to begin at 6 pm and continue until midnight on August 30, the event will feature a vibrant parade featuring contingents from uniformed bodies, government agencies, and NGOs—a hallmark of the annual Selangor celebration. The parade will be followed by cultural performances, a dazzling light show, a fireworks display, and a Merdeka concert to cap off the evening.

Amirudin extended a warm invitation to the public, encouraging citizens from all walks of life to attend. “God-willing, this celebration will reflect unity and togetherness among the people. It also symbolises our love for the nation and, to some extent, the strength within the state. We welcome everyone to join,” he said.

Held on the eve of the national holiday, the Selangor-level event complements the national celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya, reinforcing a dual narrative of state pride and national unity.
