George Town, 30 September 2026 – Construction of Penang’s Mutiara Light Rail Transit line will bring intermittent nighttime lane restrictions to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah from 1 October to 15 November, according to project owner MRT Corp. The scheduled works are linked to tree removal and will run from 10pm to 5am. For road users and businesses along the route, the immediate issue is traffic management; for the wider state economy, the closures are another visible step in a long transport investment programme.
MRT Corp said the leftmost lane between the Jalan Sungai Dua junction and Universiti Sains Malaysia Padang, heading towards Komtar, will be affected. Another leftmost lane between Batu Uban Army Camp and Sunny Point, heading towards Bayan Lepas, is also on the schedule. The rightmost lane near the army camp and traffic-light junction will be restricted in both directions. Other lanes are expected to remain available, making this a partial rather than a full road closure.
