Meta Reopens Open-Weight AI Challenge to China with Muse Models

Hong Kong, 11 August 2026 – Meta Platforms has renewed its push into open-weight artificial intelligence, launching the 30-billion-parameter Muse Glimmer model and planning to release the weights of its flagship Muse Spark 1.2 system as competition with Chinese developers intensifies.

Muse Glimmer is designed to be light enough to run locally on personal computers, widening access for developers and smaller businesses that may not want every workload processed in a remote data centre. Meta’s decision signals a return to a more open distribution strategy after earlier releases focused heavily on its own products and selected partners.
