Kuala Lumpur, 29 October 2026 – Maxis Bhd and U Mobile Sdn Bhd are again discussing a possible combination, a deal that could redraw Malaysia’s mobile market. Maxis has asked a selected group of banks and law firms to submit proposals for advisory work, while parties familiar with the discussions say U Mobile’s owners may seek a valuation of at least RM10 billion. The talks remain preliminary, and no agreement is certain.
For investors and businesses, the significance is not a confirmed transaction but the prospect of consolidation among major network operators while Malaysia expands 5G coverage. Maxis is valued at about RM28.3 billion, and a combined group could exceed CelcomDigi’s roughly RM29 billion market value, based on the figures cited in the report. Those comparisons indicate scale, not an agreed purchase price or a forecast of regulatory approval.
